Yosef Mendelevich was one of the leaders of the Soviet Jewish Underground. He spent 11 years in Soviet prisons and labor camps after an attempting a plane hijacking in a desperate escape grom the Soviet Union (featured in the movie Operation Wedding). Yosef eventually beat the KGB at their own game and was released to go home - to Israel.
